Modern Foreign Language/Spanish
At our school, we aim to foster a love of languages and an appreciation of different cultures, preparing pupils to become confident and curious global citizens. Our Modern Foreign Languages curriculum focuses on Spanish and is delivered using the Language Angels scheme of work, which provides a structured and progressive approach to language learning.
The Language Angels scheme ensures that pupils develop key language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Lessons are carefully sequenced to build knowledge over time, enabling pupils to revisit and embed previously learned vocabulary and grammatical structures. This supports pupils in developing both confidence and accuracy in their use of the Spanish language.
Pupils are introduced to a wide range of topics, allowing them to communicate about familiar themes such as family, school, hobbies, and the wider world. As they progress, they begin to construct sentences, ask and answer questions, and express their ideas with increasing complexity. Pronunciation and intonation are modelled and practised regularly to ensure pupils develop clear and confident spoken language.
A strong emphasis is placed on cultural understanding. Pupils explore the traditions, customs, and daily life of Spanish-speaking countries, helping them to develop respect and appreciation for different cultures and ways of life.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will have developed a solid foundation in Spanish and the confidence to communicate in a new language. We aim to instil a lifelong interest in languages and an enthusiasm for learning beyond the classroom.
