Earlham Primary School

PE

At our school, we aim to develop pupils’ physical competence, confidence, and enjoyment of physical activity, while promoting healthy and active lifestyles. Each day begins with ‘Wake and Shake’, an engaging whole-school activity designed to energise pupils, promote wellbeing, and establish positive routines for physical activity. Our P.E. curriculum is structured using the Get Set 4 P.E. scheme, which provides a broad, balanced, and progressive programme of learning for all pupils.

The Get Set 4 P.E. scheme ensures comprehensive coverage of the national curriculum, with a clear progression of skills and knowledge across all year groups. Pupils engage in a wide range of activities that develop both fundamental movement skills and sport-specific techniques. These include games, gymnastics, dance, athletics, and fitness.

Through games lessons, pupils develop key skills such as passing, receiving, attacking, and defending, while learning the importance of teamwork and fair play. In gymnastics and dance, children explore movement, balance, coordination, and expression, creating and performing sequences with increasing control and creativity. Athletics provides opportunities to develop running, jumping, and throwing skills.

A strong emphasis is placed on developing the whole child through physical education. Pupils are supported to build personal qualities such as resilience, determination, respect, and cooperation. They are encouraged to set personal goals, reflect on their performance, and strive for improvement.

Our curriculum also promotes physical literacy, ensuring that pupils develop the motivation, confidence, and knowledge needed to lead active and healthy lives. Fitness is embedded throughout the programme, helping pupils to understand the importance of exercise for both physical and mental wellbeing.

By providing a wide range of high-quality physical experiences, we aim to develop pupils who are confident, active, and equipped with the skills and attitudes needed to enjoy physical activity throughout their lives.

We work in partnership with Impact Sports Education Ltd to enhance our physical education provision and provide high-quality sporting opportunities for our pupils.

Lunchtime and After School Club Provision

Impact Sports Education Ltd is a specialist provider of sports and recreation education, supporting schools through engaging PE lessons, coaching, and enrichment activities. Their experienced coaches deliver structured, inclusive sessions that help pupils develop fundamental skills, confidence, and a positive attitude towards physical activity.

In addition to curriculum PE, they provide a range of extra-curricular clubs giving our pupils the opportunity to take part in a variety of sports in a fun and supportive environment. These sessions are designed to be accessible to all abilities, encouraging participation, teamwork, and enjoyment.

Through this partnership, our pupils benefit from expert coaching, wider sporting experiences, and increased opportunities to stay active. This supports not only their physical development, but also their wellbeing, resilience, and social skills.

THFC Premier League Primary Stars Programme

We have been proud to participate in the THF Premier League Primary Stars programme, which has played an important role in inspiring pupils to remain active and to develop key life skills. Our participation in the programme has enabled pupils to take part in specialised sports lessons delivered by a Tottenham Hotspur coach, providing them with structured opportunities to improve their physical abilities and teamwork.
